Car buyer has bad credit, worse options

Dear Terry,
Are there options to purchasing a car when your credit score is 490, with no money down?
-- Brenda

Dear Brenda,
There are always options when it comes to buying a car, but in many cases they're not pretty. There are the "Buy Here, Pay Here" used car lots that carry their own loans. But those deals involve not only high-interest loans but also cars that are priced above market value. There are also subprime lenders, but they, too, will jack up the interest rate.

Your best bet is to assess your financial situation and buy the cheapest car you can afford until you can build up your credit file.
