Acadia crossover SUV, $34,050 and Sierra 1500 full-size pickup, $23,590

The truck, SUV crossover and van company provides standard basic coverage, good for three years or 36,000 miles, which is the least generous car warranty featured on this list. However, the company's powertrain, corrosion and roadside-assistance coverage is generous enough to earn a spot.

GMC offers a powertrain warranty good for five years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Its corrosion coverage is good for six years or 100,000 miles.

The company also provides its auto owners with a 24-hour roadside-assistance program, and coverage lasts for a period of five years or 100,000 miles from the date of purchase.

Both GMC's Acadia and Terrain were designated IIHS Top Safety Picks, scoring high marks in overlap, side-impact and roof-strength categories. New GMCs are also eligible for the company's courtesy transportation program, which provides alternate vehicles, and possibly reimbursement of certain transportation expenses, if the covered auto needs warranty repairs.
