Citi points for Haiti aid

Friday, Jan. 22
Posted: 11 a.m.

Effective immediately, consumers who have Citibank debit or credit cards can redeem their rewards points for a donation to the Haiti relief effort.

Cardholders can donate their ThankYou Network points to the American Red Cross International Response Fund in denominations of $50 and $100. Citi is also allowing fee-free wire transfers from the U.S. to Haiti through Jan. 29, 2010.

Donations can be made by redeeming points at ThankYou.com or by calling (800) THANKYOU, or (800) 842-6596.

Don't have a Citi card? Discover will match donations made with cardholders' Cashback Bonus to the American Red Cross, up to a total of $1 million. So far the company has not set an expiration date for the match.

Credit card companies such as Visa and MasterCard have already waived transaction fees for credit card donations. Check with your credit card provider for information about donations to help the earthquake-stricken country.
