  • 13.81% (all fixed)
  • 14.5% (all variable)

Credit card rates didn't move this week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards stayed steady at 14.5 percent. The fixed APR rate remained at 13.81 percent. It hasn't budged since the first week of March.

Bank of America on Monday said it is adding EMV chips -- named for developers Europay, MasterCard and Visa -- to many of its consumer credit cards. Before, the bank only offered chip cards to its corporate and commercial customers. Some newly issued cards will automatically come with chips, while customers can request a chip version of their card at no charge. EMV chip cards are widely used abroad and provide better data encryption compared to traditional magnetic-stripe cards.
