  • 14.46% (all variable)

The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards stayed at 14.46 percent this week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. The fixed rate held steady at 13.36 percent. It hasn't moved all year.

Consumers with store credit cards are more likely to carry a balance on several cards than those who only have regular credit cards, according to a survey from Auriemma Consulting Group. The average balance was $547 on the most frequently used retail card. The five most popular store cards were from Kohl's, J.C. Penney, Macy's, Sears and Best Buy. The group surveyed 402 U.S. credit card holders online in July.
