American Express is expanding its partnership with Uber to bring Uber Eats perks to select cardmembers.

Starting Oct. 26, 2020, U.S. cardmembers with The Platinum Card® from American Express, American Express® Green Card and American Express® Gold Card get up to 12 months in complimentary Uber Eats Pass membership.

Additionally, beginning in early 2021, cardmembers owning the Amex Gold Card, in particular, will receive up to $120 in annual Uber Cash ($10 a month, expires at the end of each month), good for U.S. Uber Eats orders and U.S. Uber rides. Your Amex Gold Card needs to be added to the Uber app to receive the Uber Cash benefit.  Terms Apply

As a reminder, the consumer Amex Platinum already offers up to $200 in Uber Cash annually ($15 dollars per month and an additional $20 in December) and Uber VIP status.

“Our card members crave food experiences, and we’re seeing that they’re continuing to seek out food delivery services to create those special experiences at home, while also beginning to explore local dining destinations again,” said Rachel Stocks, executive vice president, global premium products and benefits at American Express, in a news release. “We’re excited to expand our partnership with Uber to provide value to our card members who are looking to get even more out of their membership.”

What is Uber Eats Pass?

Eats Pass is a monthly subscription offered by Uber Eats that provides users with an array of perks, including:

  • An unlimited $0 delivery fee on eligible restaurant purchases
  • 5 percent off eligible restaurant purchases over $15 (taxes and service fees may apply and do not count toward order minimum)
  • $0 delivery fee on groceries over $30 (in select markets)

Typically, this service charges $9.99 a month (up to $119 per year), but select Amex cardmembers can receive it for free by enrolling no later than Dec. 31, 2021. As long as you enroll by this date, you can secure access to the benefit for 12 consecutive months. Uber Eats Pass will auto-bill starting 12 months from initial enrollment in this offer, at then-current monthly rate.

What the new Amex Uber perks mean for you

Given the current health crisis and rising levels of coronavirus cases across the U.S., this membership will likely come in handy when it comes to ordering in and getting groceries delivered.

If you own one of the U.S. consumer American Express credit cards listed above, taking advantage of the Uber Eats Pass Membership is a no-brainer; doing so is at no additional cost to you.
