How 2 Chainz’s net worth was built

Born Tauheed Epps, rapper 2 Chainz grew up an only child raised primarily by his mother, as his father was in out and prison. He started performing while in high school, first forming a hip-hop duo called Playaz Circle with Earl Conyers, later known as Dolla Boy. Starting in the late 1990s, the duo released several indie projects before meeting rapper Ludacris.

It was this meeting that started 2 Chainz on the path to recording success. Ludacris, then a DJ, played the duo’s songs on his radio show. They faced a temporary setback when 2 Chainz was shot and Dolla Boy did a brief jail stint. Regardless, Ludacris signed them to his Disturbing Tha Peace label, where they released several mixtapes and two studio albums. By 2010, 2 Chainz was ready for a solo career; he adopted his current moniker, released his own mixtapes and albums, and appeared as a guest on other artists’ work. In 2012, he signed with Def Jam Records and released his solo debut, “Based on a T.R.U. Story.”
