Real Genius stands out for speed and price. Some borrowers get preapproved within 15 minutes, and data shows that about 92% of its 2025 mortgages were priced below comparable loans. Its loan lineup is standard — conventional, FHA, VA and jumbo purchase loans, plus refinancing.
It earns high marks from Bankrate users and Trustpilot reviewers, and it’s accredited by the Better Business Bureau, backing up its pricing with a strong reputation for customer service. However, we found that the lender can be slow to reach by phone.
About 21% of borrowers approved for a Real Genius mortgage don’t make it to closing, a worse rate than many lenders we review. If you’re working against a deadline, keep that in mind, but remember that loans can fail to close for reasons unrelated to the lender, including an applicant walking away. Federal lending data shows no recorded Real Genius mortgage originations in 2024 because the lender paused mortgage lending. Real Genius has since resumed originating loans, but it’s still working to return to the speed and volume of business it once had. Still, the available pricing data for Real Genius helps it earn a 5-star Overall and 5-star Bankrate Score.
