With the end of football season, "this would also be a good time to get Green Bay Packers memorabilia," says Jon Wertheim, senior writer for Sports Illustrated. Because of the timing, football-related items are on sale, he says -- at "a quarter to a third" of the regular price.
With other sports, you might score a deal on the game itself. "What we're seeing already is that we're sort of in a lull in basketball and hockey," Wertheim says. With both sports, "we're not in opening week, and not in the playoffs. It's the sort of a soft spot in the schedule."
As a result, "you can get tickets significantly under face" value, he says.
