What should I put on my 'car-for-sale' sign?
Dear Driving for Dollars,
I've heard the best way to sell a used car is to put a sign on it and place it somewhere along a busy road. Sounds easy enough, but I'm wondering what information to include or not include -- aside from the price and my phone number of course -- to help attract a good buyer.

Dear John,
I'm not a fan of the roadside used car lot. In a lot of places it's against local zoning laws, and you're advertising to any potential thieves and joy riders that here's a car no one is going to be watching for hours on end.
But if you really want to go this route, put only your phone number -- adding your name just helps someone target your car if he or she want to jack it. Have a local print shop make up some sticky pads with the basic info on the car -- year, mileage, how many owners, optional equipment and price. That way interested buyers can take the info with them and there's less of a chance that simple fliers will wind up sailing in the breeze.
