The cars that are the most 'made in the USA'
When it comes to cars, "buying American" can be tricky, since buying a car that is assembled in the United States doesn't necessarily make it as American as you might think.
Each year, the Kogod School of Business at American University in Washington, D.C., determines the percentage of cars that can truly be considered "made in America." Its 2016 results are based on 7 criteria, such as:
- How many parts were made in America.
- How much labor was done in the U.S.
- How much research and development were done in America.
Here, in ascending order, are the 2016 models -- 41 total -- that are the most American-made, according to Kogod's 2016 Made in America Auto Index.
