Material Girl snaps up $13 million mansion

Former "Material Girl" Madonna, who raps America's consumer culture in her new album "American Life," has snapped up an 11,600 square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills to the tune of $13 million.

Earlier this spring she put her previous Beverly Hills home on the market for $10.9 million. It's a 7,000-square-foot Spanish-style hacienda, built in the 1920s, with eight bedrooms and a guest house.

The 44-year-old singer and her husband, director Guy Ritchie, bought it from actress Diane Keaton in 2000.

They bought the new place from actress Sela Ward and her husband, Howard Sherman, who put the French Norman style house on the market just last week. Built just three years ago, the mansion sits on 1.17 acres off Sunset Boulevard. It has seven bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, a screening room, a library, a gym, a sauna, two guesthouses, a tennis court, a steam room and swimming pool.

The Ritchies also own a five-story home in London.
