An often-overlooked model, the Nissan Altima adds another sedan to the hybrid market. Built on powertrain components that drive Toyota's hybrids, the 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine works alongside a 244-volt electric motor to deliver 35 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. But unlike Toyota's hybrids, the Altima still qualifies for a full federal tax credit of $2,350.
The five-passenger Altima uses a full-hybrid drive, meaning it can operate in an all-electric mode, all-gasoline mode or a combination of the two.
