The United Services Automobile Association, commonly known as USAA, is a financial organization for those who have ties to the U.S. military service. From active U.S. military officers to family members of USAA members who hold some type of USAA-sponsored property insurance, the association provides a wide range of financial services for more than 7 million members.
Originally founded as an automobile insurance organization in 1922, the association expanded with the founding of its banking sector in 1983. USAA is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.
From investments to insurance, USAA provides all of the traditional tools and resources of big commercial banking institutions, including:
- Checking and savings accounts.
- Credit cards.
- Auto and personal loans.
- Insurance (auto, home, renter’s, life and health).
- Mutual funds.
- Wealth management.
Deposits and ATM use with USAA
While the USAA only has one banking location in the nation (at its headquarters), USAA members can deposit checks via a scanning system, and they can use any ATM location in the country to withdraw money without incurring fees. If the ATM location charges an additional fee, USAA refunds up to $15 of these expenses each month. Customers can also transfer funds to other bank accounts for free.
Credit cards with USAA
USAA members enjoy three credit card options, and Bankrate compares two of them here. While the majority of credit cards carry fees for exceeding credit limit, USAA cards do not allow cardholders to overspend, and therefore, have no fees for this issue.
