AssuranceAmerica was founded in 1998 and now operates with over 4,000 independent agents across 10 states. Although its insurance offerings are limited both in options and location, it works with drivers who may otherwise have a hard time securing insurance. AssuranceAmerica focuses on drivers who are considered high-risk or who simply want to obtain the lowest amount of insurance to drive legally.

AssuranceAmerica places a strong emphasis on the customer and agent relationship. As a result, the insurance carrier offers limited capabilities in its mobile app and online, but does keep extended hours for customer support. If working with a local agent and maintaining the minimum amount of coverage are what you are looking for with an insurance company, then AssuranceAmerica may be another option to add to your list.

AssuranceAmerica car insurance

AssuranceAmerica car insurance aims to offer coverage at affordable prices. It also focuses on providing products to those who require an SR-22 form or are considered high-risk, which might include drivers with previous DUI/DWI convictions or drivers with multiple accidents on their record.

AssuranceAmerica currently relies on an insurance agent network. To obtain a quote, file a claim or modify your insurance policy, a policyholder must work through one of the many independent agents.

Types of coverage

AssuranceAmerica limits its policy options to liability insurance, physical damage coverage, medical payments and offering policies that meet the minimum requirements for each state it operates in. There may be other options available for your policy that a licensed insurance agent for the company can confirm based on availability in your state.

  • Minimum state requirements: Almost every state requires a minimum amount of liability insurance to be purchased so each driver can drive legally. Some states also require personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Liability insurance: Liability pays for other driver’s expenses associated with injuries or property damage as a result of an accident you caused. Higher liability limits usually offer greater financial protection for the policyholder.
  • Full coverage: Full coverage typically includes liability, comprehensive and collision coverage. Comprehensive and collision cover expenses related to damage to your own vehicle, either from a covered accident or something out of your control, like hail or vandalism, regardless of fault.
  • Medical payments coverage: Also called medpay, this coverage pays toward expenses for injuries sustained by you and your passengers following an accident, regardless of fault.

Discounts

The discounts available for AssuranceAmerica auto insurance policies are not currently listed on the website. However, an independent agent should be able to advise on ones you may qualify for to lower your premiums. Most companies offer a variety of discounts, with common ones including:

  • Good driver: If you have no at-fault accidents on your driving record that occurred within recent years, you may qualify for good driver savings.
  • Good student: If you are a full-time student and maintain a B average or higher, carriers will often reward you with additional savings. This is typically available for teen and young adult drivers.
  • Paid-in-full: If you have the ability to pay your annual premiums in one lump sum payment versus spreading it out in monthly payments, you might qualify for a paid-in-full discount.

Where does AssuranceAmerica operate?

AssuranceAmerica currently operates in 10 states, which include:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Virginia

The company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, but also has offices in:

  • Birmingham, Alabama
  • Tampa, Florida
  • Dallas, Texas
  • McAllen, Texas

AssuranceAmerica is licensed in several other states, but is not currently active. It’s possible more states will be covered in the future, but for now the company appears to be focused on the 10 listed above.

AssuranceAmerica ratings, reviews, customer satisfaction and complaints

AssuranceAmerica does not currently have J.D. Power ratings for customer satisfaction, which may be due to its limited state coverage. It also does not have any financial strength ratings with either AM Best or Standard and Poor’s (S&P). However, when researching the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Complaint Index, it appears AssuranceAmerica has several registered complaints. Currently, the company has 13 official complaints registered, which pushes its overall index rating to 3.56. The industry’s base is 1.0, which means the company receives over three times as many complaints as is standard.

Reasons AssuranceAmerica insurance is a good option

AssuranceAmerica could be a good option for a few reasons. If you are a high-risk driver, need an SR-22 filing or need an affordable auto insurance option, the carrier may offer a budget-friendly solution. AssuranceAmerican may also be well-suited for a driver who only intends on purchasing the bare minimum insurance requirements. Lastly, if someone prefers working with a local agent only over conducting most of their insurance business online or through a mobile app, AssuranceAmerica’s agent network could be a positive aspect of its service.

It is worth noting the carrier is limited in options, both from a location standpoint (with it currently operating in only 10 states) and from a digital assets perspective. Although you can pay your bill online, most other functions must be carried out with a customer service agent or the licensed agent you work with.

Frequently asked questions

How do I file a claim with AssuranceAmerica?

When filing a claim with AssuranceAmerica as a policyholder, the first step is to contact your local agent. From there, the agent can advise on the next steps. If your agent is unavailable, the customer service number for claims is also an option for help. There is not currently an option to start a claim online or over an app.

How much does auto insurance cost?

The average annual cost of car insurance in the U.S. is $1,674 per year for a full coverage policy. This amount is based on data analyzed from Quadrant Information Services. However, personal factors, such as ZIP code (in most states), driving history, vehicle type and miles driven per year are all factored into how much your premiums will cost. Your exact rate may be more or less than the national average depending on your unique situation. You can work with a local agent to receive exact amounts.
