Guess what, guys? It’s not jewelry, chocolate or roses that touch a woman’s heart. They’re more impressed by a simpler and often less-expensive gift. I’m Kristin Arnold with your Bankrate.com Personal Finance Minute.

It really is the thought that counts. Despite what you think, expensive means very little. You can wow your sweetie with thoughtful gestures. Women want their men to cherish them…and that means paying attention to things their loved ones care about.

Whether it’s one of their favorite desserts you make from scratch…or maybe a favorite movie you invite her over for…you’re making a conscious effort to show you know her, think about her…and you’re taking the time out to show her!

Some examples of thoughtful and frugal gifts is to make a donation to a cause that she is passionate about…being her handyman for the day…buying her a series of lessons on something she has always wanted to learn…whether that’s painting, music or yoga.

Whatever you do, putting thought into it makes any gift the best ever.
