“I love road trips,” says Mike Quincy, auto content specialist for Consumer Reports. “For me, one of the most important aspects of finding a good road trip car is a tremendous driving range. You fill up the car and you hit the highways and you look at the trip computer and you can’t believe the huge numbers you’re getting.”
Our list of 10 best cars for road trips was compiled after interviews with experts from Consumer Reports, Edmunds.com, and Kelley Blue Book and kbb.com. Factors included safety; comfort; fuel economy; storage for luggage, recreational equipment, strollers and more; and enjoyment driving or riding in the vehicle.
“You want to be comfortable,” says Brian Moody, senior road test editor for Edmunds.com. “Seating is certainly the biggest thing. If you have kids or adults in the back that aren’t comfortable, then you as the driver are going to be subjected to their complaints.”
