Having trouble accessing your Wells Fargo services? You aren’t the only one. This morning Wells Fargo experienced a nationwide outage, affecting cards, apps, online accounts and more. In fact, I myself was affected when attempting to access an online brokerage account.

When attempting to transfer money from my Wells Fargo investment account into an outside checking account, I was at a standstill. My outside account information wasn’t appearing, despite having added the account just yesterday. Further, I couldn’t even log into the account for most of the morning.

What does this mean for you?

You may find your Wells Fargo debit card isn’t working or card information isn’t available in your online account – and you aren’t alone. Twitter users have reported their cards being declined this afternoon.

“I’m not upset over online being down… I’m upset my debit card is being declined and the only credit card I have is Wells Fargo… I couldn’t pay for my breakfast I get every morning… luckily the lady knows me and did an IOU,” said one Twitter user.

So far, Wells Fargo has addressed the issue a handful of times on social media, recently tweeting, “We’re experiencing system issues due to a power shutdown at one of our facilities, initiated after smoke was detected following routine maintenance. We’re working to restore services as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

With this being the second outage of the week from Wells Fargo, customers are losing patience – but there is a way to get around it.

Where to go from here

If you have a credit card with Wells Fargo, you’ll still be able to make purchases. As for debit cards, some have found that you can still use your card by selecting “credit” when making purchases.

In the future, always make sure to have additional payment options available or keep an emergency stash of cash.
