Alaska Airlines is one of the largest carriers in the U.S. and offers some of the best flight rewards out there. If you’re a frequent flyer on Alaska or one of their many Global Partners, you’ll be interested in their Mileage Plan Dining program, which is a part of their Mileage Plan™ loyalty program.

With Mileage Plan Dining, each time you dine out at one of the 10,000 restaurants partnered with the program, you’ll be earning valuable miles toward flights and other perks. And the program offers a 1,000-mile bonus when you pay for your first meal.

Getting started

The first step to take advantage of this plan is to sign up for an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account. This account is where you will go to be able to see how many miles you’ve earned and use those miles toward travel and other perks. Once you have your account set up, simply join Mileage Plan Dining by clicking the green “Join Now” button. When you sign up, you will register a debit or credit card. You can register more than one card. Then you’re ready to earn miles on qualifying purchases whenever you use your registered cards.

The best cards to link to your account

Earning miles all comes down to your purchases, so you want to maximize every dollar spent. It’s a good idea to link multiple cards so that any time you use a card, you’ll earn miles toward your account.

Rewards cards are always going to give you the most bang for your buck, and Alaska Airlines rewards cards are highly rated. A prime example is the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card. For a limited time you’ll get a $100 statement credit and 40,000 bonus miles if you spend $2,000 within the first 90 days of opening the account. Reaching the spending requirement unlocks another part of the sign-up bonus, the Famous Companion Fare™ offer, which lets you fly a friend from just $121 ($99 plus taxes and fees from $22). You’ll also get a free checked bag for you and up to 6 people traveling with you. This is definitely a great card to have on hand for earning rewards miles.

Another fantastic rewards card to have on your account is the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card. It’s one of the best general travel rewards cards out there. You get a 50,000-mile sign-up bonus if you make $3,000 worth of purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account. And the card offers 2 miles on every purchase, no blackout dates, and waives the $95 annual fee for the first 12 months.

Redeeming miles

Redeeming miles is easy and awards tickets can run as low as 5,000 miles. You can book most awards tickets online through Alaska Airlines rewards.

When you get to the site, sign in to your Mileage Plan account. Once you’re logged in, you will be able to see how many miles you have available. From there, simply click the “Use miles” box when searching for your flight.

Getting the most out of the program

If you want to get the most out of this program, all you have to do is dine out with as many restaurant partners from the Mileage Plan Dining program as you can. You can find restaurants in your area by searching the Mileage Plan Dining site.

And to get the most out of your meal purchases, you can sign up for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card or a similar rewards card. You’ll be earning miles on top of miles to put toward future travel. And with select Alaska Airlines rewards cards, you’ll also have access to the Companion Fare™.

And if you really want to amp things up, invite a few friends out for a meal. At the VIP level, you’ll earn 5 miles for every dollar you spend.
