Rebounding financial security in December

The hope for a strong holiday season revolves around whether consumers are feeling financially confident enough to spend. I’m Kristin Arnold with your Personal Finance Minute.

Americans feelings about financial security rebounded to the highest levels since June. Improvement was seen in every area, but especially in areas of job security and comfort level with savings.

Here with more is Senior Financial Analyst with, Greg McBride. Greg, did the drop in the unemployment rate contribute to an improved sense of job security?

“The drop in the unemployment rate to 8.6% certainly played a part. The release of the jobs report coincided with when the poll was conducted. Those feeling less secure in their jobs fell 28% down to 18% and nearly 2 out of 3 feel their job security is the same now as it was a year ago. Now, 2011 was not a year of progress in terms of consumer’s financial security. Every component ended the year lower than where it started back in January.”
