Summer is primetime for indulging in concerts, festivals, and sporting events. While many might be well-versed in paying their way to an upcoming summer event with a credit card – some might not be aware of all the events their card issuers actually put on.

Issuers like American Express, Capital One and Citi each host a number of summer offerings. And if you carry any of these issuer cards, you could get pre-sale or VIP access to certain events, along with other perks. That’s in addition to the rewards you’ll earn from making purchases.

Here’s how to access the summer event calendars offered by a few credit card issuers, and the cards that will get you to the VIP section.

American Express summer events

AMEX allows cardmembers to search for a wide range of events according to title or location through their American Express Experiences hub page. Once you’ve selected your event, the online payment process is simple. There are some exclusive events reserved for Platinum cardholders and Centurion members, which feature VIP Access to the likes of Shakespeare in the Park, Wimbledon Centre Court and the US Open.

Pre-sale periods are exclusive to American Express cardholders, so make sure you have your AMEX card on hand.

Amex card to consider

American Express® Green Card has a $95 annual fee (waived during the first year). And it offers a 1:1 rewards rate, meaning you’ll earn 1 point for every $1 spent on the majority of purchases.

Citi summer concert series

Citi has a partnership with Live Nation, providing Citi cardmembers with exclusive access to certain Live Nation events. This includes 2-3 days advance ticket purchasing. For pre-sale or preferred tickets, you’ll need to provide the first six digits on the front of your Citi card. This same card will be used for payment.

Citi also hosts its own events, which you can find through its Citi entertainment site. To purchase tickets for these events, you’ll also need to enter the first six digits of your Citi card.

Cardmembers can take advantage of bonuses through Citi VIP and receive benefits like premium seating, exclusive artist merchandise, artist meet and greets, special access to hospitality areas and more.

Citi cards to consider

The Citi Simplicity® Card is a zero percent APR card with no annual fee and no late fees (16.99%-26.99% variable thereafter). If you’re looking for rewards, the Citi® Double Cash Card earns you a flat 2 percent cash back rate on every purchase —1 percent as you spend and 1 percent as you make payments on your card.

Capital One special events

Capital One offers an array of special events for those looking for dining, entertainment, sports and more. Some perks include exclusive pre-sale ticket access, priority entry, cardholder only Master-classes and discounted season tickets.

In addition to the already full summer calendar, Capital One offers even more event options through its partnership with Vivid Seats – an online ticket marketplace.

Capital One card to consider

When you use the Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card to purchase your tickets through Vivid Seats, you’ll earn 8% cash back through May 31, 2020. The Savor card also offers 4% cash back on dining and entertainment purchases, including tickets to movies, plays, concerts and sporting event

Bottom line

If you’re looking to get out and have some summer fun, see what your credit card issuer has to offer. Having pre-sale or preferred ticket access, along with VIP treatment at most events sweetens the deal for you as a cardmember.
