Common divorce mistakes
By Leah

-
Giving up control of the divorce
-- to the lawyer. A lawyer is a trained professional, representing
your interests in court. Listen to your lawyer's advice, but
remember this is not your lawyer's divorce. You have to live
with the results.
-
Dividing up property without
a thorough inventory. Before negotiating, establish an inventory
of what you owe and what you own.
-
Spending too much money and
time letting lawyers gather the information. The legal term
is "discovery," and can include interrogatories, depositions
and requests for production of documents. Try a financial preparation
kit that can help you gather the information before you see
an attorney or mediator.
-
Letting family or friends tell
you what you need or how you should be feeling. Don't be afraid
to rely on your own judgment.
-
Trying to win back your spouse
by being generous.
