Transcript: Selling a home -- curb appeal

Anchor Intro: It's a tough real estate market right now, sales are down and money to buy a home is harder to find. But if you're one of the millions of people trying to sell your home in this market, Bankrate.com shows you how to move your home fast with a little curb appeal.

Voice over 1: It's called a buyer's market: more people trying to sell than there are people willing to buy. And it's happening now in a neighborhood near you.

Voice over 2: So how do you separate your house from the rest? Step one is curb appeal: making your house stand out from others on the market by making it look it's best ... without spending a ton of money.

Voice over 3: And this guy is an expert at it. David Kutner buys, fixes up and sells dozens of houses every year. Sometimes that means a complete remodel ... but for every house he buys ...

SOT: "I would definitely paint the house, I'd clean up any clutter, landscape the property and just make it inviting."

Voice over 4: Things like gardening can provide big bang for little buck. So cut your grass, trim the hedges, plant some flowers and make sure the front door is an eye catcher.

Voice over 5: And paint is the single most important thing you can do to make your house look clean and new. Use it inside and out.

Voice over 6: Change the furnace and air-conditioning filters, and fix other problems like leaking faucets.

Voice over 7: You might even consider hiring a home inspector. They'll give you a full report of potential deal killers so you can fix 'em before buyers find 'em.

The key is to make sure your home looks its very best before you put it on the market. It will reduce your stress and increase your bottom line. For Bankrate.com, I'm Kristin Arnold.
