Voice over 1: Dishwasher, stove, microwave. Three major appliances most of us use daily, and ones we could use more wisely to save both money and the environment.

Voice over 2: Start with your dishwasher. Don't run it half-empty. Run it only when it's FULL and you'll save up to 20-gallons of water PER load. That's 73-hundred gallons a year -- about half the water you'll drink in a lifetime! And that's not all:

SOT: "We recommend you don’t bother pre-rinsing your dishes, if that works for you, it’s just a waste of water."

Voice over 3: Ever put a small pot on a large burner? That boils down to lost money! Fit the pot to the burner, you could save about up to $36 bucks a year.

Voice over 4: We all know microwaves cook faster, but did you know they can be nearly five times more energy-efficient than a traditional oven? Zapping meals more often can reduce up to 70-percent of energy used for cooking.

Voice over 5: Plus, cleaning a microwave is fast and easy. No energy wasted on running a self-cleaning oven, AND no need for toxic-chemical oven cleaners.

Standup: Two more hot tips: if you're cooking something for more than an hour, don't pre-heat the oven. And if you're cooking a casserole or a roast, you can turn the oven off 10 to 15 minutes before they're done. They'll keep cooking. For Bankrate.com, I’m Kristin Arnold.
