Scam Alert

Voice mail scam
If you have a four-digit password on your voice mail, you may be vulnerable to hackers who could rack up long-distance charges on your bill. According to a warning issued by AT&T, these hackers dial until a voice mail message picks up, then dial away until they figure out the code. When they do, they change the outgoing message to say the phone accepts third-party calls. Then they charge long-distance calls to your telephone account.

You won't know anything has happened until you listen to your outgoing message or get your bill. To protect yourself, AT&T recommends changing your voice mail code to a six-digit number or using an answering machine.
