Mop cleaning pads for less
Have the cost for refills and cleaning pads for your favorite mop become too much for you, too? Never fear, there's a Frugal way to still use these wonderful gadgets on the tightest budget!
The disposable cleaning pads are some of the least "Green" products there are, but they can easily be replaced by tucking those marvelous microfiber cleaning cloths into the tabs on the base of your mop. The microfiber cloths can be purchased in multipacks in the automotive section of most discount stores, and multipacks are showing up in the cleaning sections, too. They scrub well, and pick up a lot of dust and pet hair as you clean, are very durable as long as you remember to avoid the use of fabric softener when washing them, and nothing's going into the landfill as waste.
The cleaning solution bottles that come with the Swiffer mop can be refilled by removing the cap using a pair of pliers, and even easier with a set of channel lock pliers. You can then use your favorite cleaning solution! Simple water and white vinegar works well for most cleaning jobs, kills most mold, bacteria, and germs, deodorizes, and is very Frugal. Just be careful to avoid any that contain any gritty substance, which could clog the mop's sprayer.
