When Lexus introduced the LS 600h L, it was doing more than just adding one more hybrid to its fleet -- it was making a point. The L series is its flagship line, and if Lexus wasn't sure hybrid technology was solid it would have never gambled by rolling it out. The company does believe in the technology, and now it is boasting about raising the standards for the entire hybrid industry.
At an eye-popping $104,900, the LS 600h
L uses a full-hybrid drive, meaning it can operate in an all-electric
mode, all-gasoline mode, or a combination of the two. The
288-volt electric motor helps the 5.0-liter V-8 pump out 438
horsepower.
The five-passenger luxury sedan features the only all-wheel-drive hybrid drive train on the market.
And while it doesn't want for amenities, the LS 600h L delivers a comparatively lackluster 20 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway -- one of the lowest mileage ratings of any hybrid.
