POLITICAL PARTY: REPUBLICAN
Employment -- Mike Huckabee

GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says the FairTax, a national sales tax on new goods that would replace all federal taxes, including corporate taxes, would encourage companies to stay on U.S. soil. Besides helping to keep jobs here, the FairTax would give workers a small raise by eliminating federal payroll and income taxes.

A part of Huckabee's "A Fair Deal for All Americans" is a plan to create jobs by boosting defense spending to 6 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.

He says the $200 billion increase will generate jobs because of the need to:

  • Build new planes, ships and other equipment for the armed forces.
  • Rebuild aging roads, bridges and water and sewer systems.
  • Construct a homeland security fence along the U.S.-Mexican border.
  • Recruit thousands for the Army and Marine Corps so that we can bring other troops home.

No record of votes on jobs is available.
