Whether you're looking for protection with the chance to make a few bucks, get a few bucks back or back out of the whole deal, here are several interesting special features you may want to consider before -- or after -- you sign on the dotted line.

Special features

New policy combines term and permanent life -- Finally. In the ongoing debate over what kind of life insurance is best, term or permanent, a new policy has emerged that blends the best aspects of each. It's called Return of Premium Term and it's the hottest thing on the market.

"Free-look" laws give you an out -- If you develop a case of buyer's remorse after signing up for a new life insurance policy, most states' free-look laws provide an easy way out.

Is your policy self-destructing? -- If you haven't checked on your life insurance policy recently, you may have a lot less insurance than you think.

Second-to-die policies kicking the bucket -- Second-to-die insurance, a tool the wealthy used to protect against estate taxes, is becoming obsolete.

'Last-chance' insurance: guaranteed-issue life -- If you've got some health issues, check into a guaranteed-issue life policy.
