  Shutting vents in unused rooms
My husband and I have a 2 story 3 bedroom home and there only 7 air conditioning vents throughout. In the summer our room is extremely hot and we don't get much air from the vent in our room, since we are the only two at home, right now. I decided to close the vents in the 2 unoccupied bedrooms and the shared bathroom vent. and keep the door shut. Since I've done this, our room has been cooler and not cooling the unoccupied rooms, we saw a decrease in our electric bill, for the month of Sept. to Oct. from $153 to $68, the weather wasa bit cooler also. By closing off those vents as not to cool the unoccupied rooms, and using our ceilings and floor fans. I think this helped contribute to the lower electricity usage. Our thermastat is normally kept at 78% during summer months.
