Blackberries, blueberries and strawberries
"Coming off the holidays, people want to eat better, and berries go hand in hand with that," Parker says. The flavor, especially for blackberries, should be scrumptious.
"You'll be hard-pressed to find a better blackberry than in February," he says.
Weather permitting, the prices should be great, too.
Look for deals on fresh fruit of two cartons for $3 to $5, he says. And on sale, you'll find prices 20 to 25 percent lower than that, he says.
Even more berries
Blueberries will still be a good buy at 2 pints for $5, Parker says.
Consumers will see something new in the produce section in February: fresh, domestic strawberries. "It's the first reflection of spring," he says. Prices will be as low as $3 to $4 a pound, Parker says.
