Providing a dowry upon the marriage of a daughter may not be a tradition in the U.S., but a lot of prospective grooms might wish it were after hearing about this particular wedding gift.
Chinese businessman Wu Duanbiao, chairman of a ceramics firm, gave his daughter and her new husband a dowry worth close to $150 million, according to the South China Morning Post. The booty included two cars, millions of dollars in cash, four boxes of gold jewelry, stock in the family business, property and donations in their names to local charities.
What makes the dowry even more stunning is that the groom earns approximately $24,000 per year. There's no doubt his lifestyle will change dramatically.
Dowries are traditional in China, especially in Fujian province, where the couple lives. They are meant to guarantee that the bride will be treated well by her new husband and his family. With this much wealth, it seems that at least the bride's financial happiness is secured.

In the old Country, (Eastern Europe) a dowry consisted of a good milking cow and several laying hens. At least there was food to eat. I love the idea. Allow the couple the opportunity to make their own way. Many of them became wealthy. They had to work hard to make their way. Still not a bad idea.
