A lot of taxpayers are filing their tax returns this month because they are getting a refund.
Now the Internal Revenue Service is making checking on those refunds easier, at least for folks who own smartphones.
The IRS today unveiled IRS2Go, its first smartphone application. It allows taxpayers to check on their status of their tax refund, as well as obtain other tax information from the agency.
"This new smart phone app reflects our commitment to modernizing the agency and engaging taxpayers where they want, when they want it," said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman in announcing the application. "As technology evolves and younger taxpayers get their information in new ways, we will keep innovating to make it easy for all taxpayers to access helpful information."
In addition to letting folks find out the status of their refunds, IRS2Go will let them check out the tax tips the agency issues during filing season.
The IRS2Go app is free at both the Apple App Store and the Android Market.
And the IRS promises more consumer tax technology upgrades are on the way.
"This phone app is a first step for us," Shulman said. "We will look for additional ways to expand and refine our use of smartphones and other new technologies to help meet the needs of taxpayers."
Hmmm. Maybe it is time for me to finally get a smartphone.

I have been waiting on my money since the 18th of febuary it suppose to be on my direct deposit on my card and it have not came yet.
Although it would be nice if these were ever offered for Blackberry. If you're looking for a smartphone so you can have apps, never get any of the Blackberry phones.
My husband's phone has even been completely and irreperably frozen in the actual Blackberry App store twice. Still, it would be nice to have it available.
