Ever left your shopping cart on the side of the proverbial road while online shopping because of ridiculously high shipping charges? You'll be happy to know 72 percent of all online shoppers abandon their carts, too, according to a Customer Experience Management survey.
While December is historically the most strategic month to save big on big purchases like a car or a home, a wedding or wedding dress, there's one more growing December trend to keep in mind: free shipping offers.
Free shipping will be offered throughout December by many more retailers than ever before, according to Shop.org's eHoliday survey, which found that a record 92.5 percent of online retailers will offer free shipping not only on Cyber Monday, but all December long.
According to Internet Retailer's Free Shipping Report, some online retailers such as L.L. Bean, Toys R Us and Microsoft will offer free shipping on all orders, while others such as Barnes & Noble set an order threshold of $25 to qualify for free shipping. The report found that $45 to $50 was the most popular order threshold for free shipping, with one of the highest at Ralph Lauren set at $195.
Want to take advantage of free shipping? On Friday, Dec. 16, more than 2,000 participating merchants will offer free shipping with delivery by Christmas Eve in the continental United States.
