P.F. Chang's has, in fact, been breached.
The restaurant chain confirmed Friday that customer credit card and debit card data was stolen from some of its locations.
"Immediately, we initiated an investigation with the United States Secret Service and a team of third-party forensics experts to understand the nature and scope of the incident, and while the investigation is still ongoing, we have concluded that data has been compromised," Rick Federico, CEO of P.F. Chang's, said in a written statement.
To ensure no additional accounts are compromised, P.F. Chang's will be switching to a manual credit card imprinting system -- think old-school carbon-copy credit card readers -- at all of its U.S. restaurants. It has also set up a public website (pfchangs.com/security) in order to field customer questions and provide updates about the investigation.
In his statement, Federico encouraged customers "to be vigilant about checking their credit card and bank statements" and to report any fraudulent charges to their card issuer immediately.
Those who discover their information has been compromised, can also call up the three credit reporting agencies to place a fraud alert on their credit report, as an added level of identity theft protection.
