cars-blog-toyota-RAV4-EVFor Americans who are tired of spending big bucks on gas, there is a growing contingent of electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars that make gas station visits infrequent and even eliminate them altogether. This weekend, those who are curious about their options for plugging in instead of filling up can attend an event celebrating National Plug In Day to learn firsthand about owning one of these cars.

Events will be held in 90 cities across the U.S., as well as in Mexico and the Netherlands. They will include test drives of a variety of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. There also will be charging-infrastructure demos and other information about driving and owning one of these vehicles.

In addition, each event will feature an electric car and plug-in hybrid car show of sorts, with owners gathering to meet one another and talk about the perks of plugging in with drivers who want to learn more. Driving a plug-in hybrid or electric car can reduce the cost of car ownership because of the money that many Americans save on gas. Owners save on car maintenance, too, since oil changes are no longer needed. Other ownership costs, such as car insurance and the monthly car loan payments, are often similar to gasoline-powered cars.

Events, which are listed at, will be held this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, with days and times varying by city.

Are you thinking of buying a plug-in hybrid or electric car?
