While spring is just springing up in many parts of the country, baseball season is getting underway with opening-day games held earlier in the week. Chevrolet is the official vehicle of Major League Baseball and the carmaker's influence can be seen at ballparks all over the country.
At Comerica Park in Detroit, a blue topaz Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup and a crystal red metallic Chevrolet Equinox small sport utility vehicle grace the top of the fountain behind center field, where water displays and the sound of a tiger growling occur after every Detroit Tigers home run. Lifting the cars to their lofty perches was a three-hour process using a large crane.
While Chevrolet cars have sat atop the fountain for the past five seasons, the vehicles have all been nonsalable preproduction models. This year, the Silverado and Equinox will be auctioned off at the end of the baseball season.
