The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has won the prestigious 2014 North American Car of the Year this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was named the winner after receiving 211 points from the jury. It beat out the Mazda3, with 185 points, and the Cadillac CTS, with 94 points. The Corvette was last named North American Car of the Year in 1998.

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is new for 2014 and is the most powerful Corvette ever built at its standard model level. Its 6.2-liter V-8 engine produces 455 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque. An optional Z51 Performance Package gives the Stingray 460 horsepower and 465 pounds-feet of torque and enables it to travel from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

The award is given by a group of 49 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada and is financed solely from jurors' dues. The group initially considers all cars that are new or substantially redesigned for the 2014.

This is the sixth time in the award history that a General Motors branded car has won. Domestic automakers have won the award 12 times in its history, while European automakers have won four times. Japanese automakers have received the honor three times, while a Korean automaker (Hyundai) has won twice.

HAVE SEEN AND DRIVEN THE MUSTANG, IT IS NO COMPARISON TO THE CAMAEO. THE CORVETTE STINGRAY WILL ALWAYS BE THE GREATEST. FORD HASN'T NEVER STOOD A CHANCE, IF YOU PURCHASE A FORD YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF MAKING DECISIONS

It runs up huge numbers, but it takes up as much room as a short bed pickup. Why does something need to be this expansive to carry two people? The dimensions of the original stingray made more sense.

Why wouldn't the Camaro or the 'Stang get that? The 'Vette is on the thin edge of being an elitist exoticar/ supercar only the filthy rich can afford.

shows the power of money in influencing choices. I will continue to love my Hyundai over the corvette. a useless car (corvette) for any practical usefulness.
