The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has won the prestigious 2014 North American Car of the Year this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was named the winner after receiving 211 points from the jury. It beat out the Mazda3, with 185 points, and the Cadillac CTS, with 94 points. The Corvette was last named North American Car of the Year in 1998.

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is new for 2014 and is the most powerful Corvette ever built at its standard model level. Its 6.2-liter V-8 engine produces 455 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque. An optional Z51 Performance Package gives the Stingray 460 horsepower and 465 pounds-feet of torque and enables it to travel from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

The award is given by a group of 49 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada and is financed solely from jurors' dues. The group initially considers all cars that are new or substantially redesigned for the 2014.

This is the sixth time in the award history that a General Motors branded car has won. Domestic automakers have won the award 12 times in its history, while European automakers have won four times. Japanese automakers have received the honor three times, while a Korean automaker (Hyundai) has won twice.

@Paul an Electric car can go zero to 60 in about 3 seconds , because unlike a gasoline engine an electric engine has instantaneous torque , an ICE needs to build up that torque.

You should actually learn about electric vehicles before posting. BTW a Chevy is a GM - what can you expect.

Everyone keeps saying buy American made cars. Look under the hood of the Ford Mustang 2000 and up and under the car as well and you will see a few things made in China and Mexico.

GM built what they wanted to sell?? Yeah, every business does that. I would too! If no one bought them, they wouldn't BUILD them!! An electric car might get to 60 in 2 MINUTES, maybe, but then it would run out of juice and leave you stranded, if it didn't burn up first (Chevrolet Volt). If I were you, I would get a 5 mile long extention cord if you're going to buy one of those pieces of junk, and a fire extinguisher.

60 in 3.8. What a 20th century low tech clunker.

You want 60 in 2, you need electric, baby.
