The nation's biggest bank announced that some customers in three states were accidentally charged twice for debit card purchases this week.
If you use a Chase debit card and live in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut, you may want to check your online banking statement. While the bank says it is working to fix the problem, monitor your online statement in the next week or so and immediately report any charges that appear to be incorrect.
The latest technological glitch is another blow to the financial giant's report card. Just last week, Twitter was abuzz with frustrated account holders who could not access their online statements as Chase struggled to repair a website outage that left many customers unable to manage their money.
Of course, Chase isn't alone in its computer challenges. Plenty of other financial institutions occasionally report that their websites are down or their payment processing systems have made mistakes.
Still, just because most banks face these difficulties doesn't mean customers will continue to excuse them. It's issues like these that make account holders wary of relying on online and mobile technologies for all of their banking needs. From the inconvenience of removing accidental charges to the possibility of massive data breaches, I don't blame customers who have concerns about the move toward an all-online experience with their banks.
A few hours of website unavailability may not seem like a long time, but the reality is that we all expect technology to work -- anywhere, anytime. As banks continue to push customers toward online bill pay, mobile deposit and other Web-based services, they'll need to ensure those services are always immediately accessible.

I have had a car loan with Chase for 32 months and have never made a late payment. My payments are electronic from my bank and have been made that way for most of my loan. Two months ago they decided to apply the payment to the principle and I started getting calls that I was past due on my payment. I have talked to their employees 3 times and was assured it would be taken care of.... I got another call 2 days ago saying I was still late. Have had enough of them and am moving the loan to US Bank where I have received great service for years. Will file complaint with BBB and Attorney Generals Office.
Chase will not reduce my credit card interest rate for some reason they won't tell me so it could be fixed, but they say they review it every 6 months. They send me checks with 0% interest for 1 year but they have no answer for the 0% versus the 18.24 on the card. If it wasn't for the credit I have on the card that I may need to use I would cancel.
I actually closed my checking, savings and retirement account with Chase after this happened to me and they refused to take ownership of their error. I spent over a month fighting with them until they finally recognized that it was their error and reversed it. Unfortunately for them, it was too little too late and I have since gone elsewhere, where I am quite happy!!
Seems that we're barking up the wrong trees in the political parties on these blogs because it wasn't the RNC that bailed the banking business out of its big black hole...it was the jokers in D.C. as of this presidential term, so please get the records straight people or to be more specific ... I had dealings with Chase Bank, and will never use them again. They are neither friendly nor helpful. I'd rather have some other bank -- any other bank -- use my money to make a buck.
I had a car payment in 2010 which, as Chase admitted 8 months later, was "delayed in processing" in their bank. The car payment received a late fee, but I refused to pay it. For 8 months, I sent in my regular payment amount, and called their customer service every month to report they still had not corrected the problem.
Finally, I moved the car loan to my credit union. Chase Bank immediately sent a letter of apology, saying they had "corrected" the problem and eliminated the late charge. I thought the situation was settled, until I pulled my credit report and saw they had reported me "30 days late" for those 8 months.
Another telephone call to their Customer Service, only to learn that every month when I mailed in my car payment, they deducted the first $35.00 to cover the "past-due amount" from the previous month, leaving the current month's payment shorted by $35.00, then charging a late fee because the current month wasn't "paid in full" -- AND -- as I found out later, reported me 30-days past due.
I am still dealing with those 8-months of bad marks on my credit report, entered there by Chase Bank -- and it all started when they misplaced my payment for several days.
I vote with my dollars, and Chase Bank will never see any of my dollars again.

The best solutions always lay in the middle, never at the extremes. Balance business and social interests, don't repeal 200 years of progress. Our Founders created a dynamic system that is supposed to change, not remain the same.

About a year ago my Chase account was compromised. I paid for a funeral of a man in another country. Chase quickly took care of the problem. I got a NEW CARD. I was really happy. Well guess what happened last week? The "new card" paid for purchases in another country again! NO MORE, I QUIT!
I don't know why anyone uses a bank anymore with all the good credit unions around. I quit years ago, but my health savings account at work is through The Bancorp Bank and they recently not only started charging us a "Mainteance Fee II", but as of this month also started charging us for a "Paper Stmt Fee". The fees outweigh any "interest" paid on the balances in the account. They have also raised the "NSF" fee from $30 to $33. If I made the decisions, I would switch the accounts immediately. They are always trying to rip their customers off.
