Two banking corporations -- Wells Fargo and TD Bank -- were named to a list of 50 companies recognized for their commitment to diversity.
Wells Fargo ranked 25th while TD Bank was 43rd. Others included big-name accounting firms, major consumer products companies, large insurers, hotel brands and communication providers.
The list, The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, is published by DiversityInc, a diversity education and consulting company in Princeton, N.J.
The rankings are based on a 300-item questionnaire that focuses on CEO commitment to diversity management, workforce diversity, corporate and organizational diversity communications and supplier diversity. To land a spot, a company must score above average, relative to its competitors, in all four areas, according to FAQs posted on the DiversityInc website. No fee is charged to participate, and advertisers do not receive preferential treatment in the rankings.
A total of 893 companies competed for a spot on this year's list. Companies must have at least 1,000 U.S.-based employees to complete the survey and be considered.
TD Bank CEO Bharat Masrani said in a statement that diversity was a core value at the company.
"We strive to have a workforce that reflects the diverse communities where we do business," Masrani said.
One other major bank -- Capital One -- was mentioned on a supplementary list of 25 additional companies that DiversityInc said had the potential to make next year's top-50 list.
