Video: Steve Forbes on alternative investments

The key thing on investing, you don't have to have a massive, convoluted, new financial instruments in all sorts of pretzel like commodities. All you need to do is set aside a certain amount each month, ah even if you start with very few dollars. Compound interest does work and if you have that discipline ... applying a certain amount and initially just go with index funds, with low fees if you don't have time people make is they let emotions take them over. On the upside ... "golly, I talked to somebody at the bar last night who said he tripled his money and that guy doesn't have many brains, I can do better than that." And you go doing silly things. In the downturn, people get scared and say I can't take the risk I can't sleep at night, I got to pull out and they miss the upturn. Many people, millions of investors do not get the full benefit, but when the stock market turned in March 2009 because the outlook so bleak and the markets doubled since then and a lot of people missed the most of that.
