What is a building permit?
The Bankrate.com financial term of the day is: "building permit."
Rules are rules, and you have to follow them when you're building a new home, an addition on an existing one, or even making repairs. A building permit shows that the project has been given the go-ahead by local officials, the ones who oversee the codes on the books to protect people from shoddy, unsafe construction.
Before there can be any building, there must be a building permit issued to say that the plans meet the local standards.
