Mortgage rates for Feb. 14, 2013

I'm Doug Whiteman with Bankrate.com and here is your weekly look at mortgage rates.

The average interest on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose 3 basis points this week to 3.79 percent. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage rose 2 basis points to 3.02 percent and the average rate for 30-year jumbo mortgages rose 2 basis points to 4.19 percent.

The 5/1 adjustable-rate mortgage slipped 1 basis point to 2.75 percent.

Talk of spending cuts is heating up once again in Congress, so expect some uncertainty that may affect rates in the weeks ahead. As investors tuck their money into safe-haven government bonds, we're sure to see mortgage rates fluctuate.
