What is a credit report?

The Bankrate.com financial term of the day is: "Credit Report"

Creditors keep tabs, and what they've got on you is contained in your credit report, which tells the story of your financial life. Your credit report includes information about your bill-paying history, current debt balances, available credit, any bankruptcies and credit inquiries from various companies. If your credit report looks good, you'll probably snag better interest rates than someone with a lousy credit report.

Are you a good risk or a bad risk? For creditors, the answer may be found in your credit report, which documents your history with debt.

To shop for the perfect credit card, visit the credit cards section at Bankrate.com.
