What are cobranded cards?

The Bankrate.com financial term of the day is: "Cobranded Cards"

With cobranded cards, companies double up to put a credit card in your wallet. Typically, a Visa or MasterCard issued by a bank will show the bank's logo plus the Visa or MasterCard logo. There are cobranded cards that come with benefits, such as airline miles cards, which display the airline's brand plus the credit card company logo. An American Express card offered by a major retailer and providing some store perks will show the merchant's brand plus that familiar blue Amex box.

The major credit card companies partner up with banks, retailers and other businesses, and the result is cobranded cards that often provide miles, discounts and other goodies.
