As Alabama students prepare to head back to school, the Yellowhammer State is giving shoppers a break on sales taxes for certain items. See below for 2015 Alabama tax holiday dates, tax-exempt items and notable rules and exceptions. Limits shown reflect cost per item.

Tax-exemption items and price limits
  • Books: $30 or less
  • School supplies: $50 or less
  • Clothing: $100 or less
  • Computers and software: $750 or less
Notable holiday rules, exceptionsAlabama cities and counties can opt out of the holiday. They also can participate on a limited basis, meaning only a portion of the locality's total sales tax is exempted.
