Homes in happy beach towns
With sand, sea and salt air, is it any wonder so many people love the beach?
That love of life near the water is one reason Coastal Living magazine drafts its annual list of America's "10 happiest seaside towns," says Antonia van der Meer, formerly the magazine's editor in chief.
"We started with the idea because we felt that, for many people, the coast was their happiest place," she says.
Every year, the magazine evaluates a new batch of contenders based on each town's percentage of sunny days, walkability, beach quality and cleanliness, crime rates, health rankings and salaries -- along with that indefinable "coastal vibe," says van der Meer.
Ever wonder about the housing options in your favorite beach spot? Or what homes there typically cost?
Here's a quick peek inside 10 homes for sale in 2015's "10 happiest seaside towns" -- along with the average home prices for the area. We start with the No. 1-ranked town, then go down the list.
