November is the first full month of the holiday season and the beginning of serious holiday sales and specials. And we're not just talking about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I'm Clark Palmer with your Bankrate.com personal finance minute.

There are several items where you're likely to find some good buys in the month of November. For example, you can get some great deals on TVs and DVDs. You can probably find a fairly simple 32-inch TV for less than two hundred and fifty dollars.

Also, look for markdowns on winter clothing, including hats, gloves and sleepwear.

And even though Halloween is a year away, it's not too early to start shopping for next year's costumes. Halloween items are likely to have major discounts, up to 40 and 50 percent.

If you're looking to decorate your patio come summertime, November is a great time to shop. Stores are trying to clear out outdoor furniture, patio umbrellas, grills and grilling equipment and any other summer merchandise. You can expect to see prices slashed on these types of items.
