Credit card rates remained unchanged this week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates. The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for variable-rate credit cards stayed steady at 14.45 percent for the second week in a row. The fixed APR was 13.81 percent. It hasn't budged since the first week of March.

The average credit card debt per U.S. consumer fell 13 percent to $5,650 in April from $6,493 a year ago and is down almost 4 percent from $5,871 in March, according to the latest survey from CreditKarma.com released Wednesday. Residents of Alaska and Hawaii had the highest average credit card debt of $7,096 and $7,090, respectively. Mississippi and Louisiana residents boasted the lowest averages of $4,232 and $4,504, respectively, according to the report.
